Saturn/Uranus and Saturn/Neptune

When one planet aspects another, we experience the influence of the transiting planet upon the aspected planet, impacting the natal house of the aspected planet and the house which that planet rules in our chart.

Usually when an outer planet aspects one of our outer planets, most of us pay less attention to it than we do to an aspect to a personal planet, and may as a result be unaware of the opportunities provided to us. As with any transit, we may benefit most by focusing not on the aspect, but rather the planetary combination—e.g., Saturn/Uranus or Saturn/Neptune.

Understanding the possibilities of a planetary combination is useful to us whether we are considering transit-to-transit aspects (e.g., the Saturn/Uranus oppositions of 2008–2010), transit-to-natal aspects (e.g., Saturn aspecting our Uranus our transiting Uranus aspecting our Saturn), or natal-to-natal aspects (e.g., a Saturn/Uranus square in our natal chart). In each situation, we would want to ask ourselves all the possible meanings of those two planetary energies in relation to each other. We would hopefully then make choices which express their most constructive manifestations.

In the original edition of this book, published in 1985, I discussed at length the then upcoming Saturn/Uranus and Saturn/Neptune conjunctions, and how we might best express these two planetary combinations. Neither of these conjunctions will occur again until 2025; however, Saturn/Neptune oppositions occurred recently in 2006–2007, and a Saturn/Uranus opposition will repeat a number of times between December 2008 and July 2010. As a result, I have chosen to include again a discussion of these two planets in combination, with interpretations and guidance which we also can apply to natal aspects involving these planets.

However, with transits to our natal chart, our experience of this planetary combination and indeed any planetary combination will be influenced by which planet is transiting. For example, under transiting Saturn square natal Uranus, we may lead us to grapple with demands, responsibilities and time pressures which limit our personal freedom, but we may also find concrete forms through which we can express our intuition and individuality. Under transiting Uranus squaring our Saturn, we may discover new opportunities for breaking out of fixed patterns, expressing ourselves in unique ways, and perhaps also making significant changes in our work situation.

Let us consider both the negative and positive potentials of Saturn/Uranus and Saturn/Neptune in combination, so that may prepare for the difficulties they may bring us, and create a vision of possibilities we may wish to actualize.
